Magnets And Miracles And Mixture

Magnets And Miracles And Mixture

Genesis 10

1 Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood.

2 The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.

3 And the sons of Gomer; Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.

4 And the sons of Javan; Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.

5 By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.

32 These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.

So … the following is an example of my mind and how it wanders around and comes up with thoughts.

——————————

This morning I was listening to a song by one of Luke’s favorite groups, Pink Floyd ;-)) The song is called High Hopes.

Here are the words from the first part:

“Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun.”

——————————

Here are my thoughts as they progressed in my head. ——

*What the heck is wrong with Luke? Maybe one day he’ll see the light. :-)

In full disclosure, I had my first Pink Floyd album in 1969. I didn’t actually become a fan of PF until about 40 years later. And that’s thanks to my son Daniel’s constant persistence.

*I love the words in that first section of the song. They faithfully express the wonder of the times back when I was a kid. The words magnets and miracles take me back to my formative, young childhood years.

Back in those days magnets, for some reason, were a big deal to us kids. I think it had to do, at least in part, with the fact that little pocket magnets were being made then. We just thought it was the coolest thing to carry in our pockets a power source that we could unleash to do stuff. And along with our pocket magnets, we also carried pocket magnifying glasses to burn up leaves and bugs and our unsuspecting friend’s hand. Such fun.

*All that got me to thinking about how wonderful it was growing up in America back then. It truly was like another section of the song which states:

“The grass was greener
The light was brighter
When friends surrounded
The nights of wonder”

We lived during a time when people still believed in magnets and miracles. The grass WAS greener. The light WAS brighter. And friends still sat out on their front porches watching the grass grow while the setting sun began to reveal the nights of wonder.

I think we lost the wonder somewhere along the way.

Anyway …

*That then got me thinking about how the majority of the world at that time wasn’t able to indulge themselves in such things. Many other nations were just trying to figure out how to live from one day to the next. They weren’t thinking about the wonders of freshly cut grass and how good it smells.

*That got me to thinking … and wondering …

Well then —

Surely it’s a noble thing our country has done by enabling so many people from so many countries to come here to be blessed and bettered in their lives. Makes sense, right? God must be pleased, right?

And then, by extension, it’s also a noble thing our country has done by spreading our cultural values and influence around the world, right? It is amazing the extent to which we’ve helped other societies to advance, right?

So much so that if countries want aid from us, they now have to submit to our present laws regarding:

Abortion. If abortions aren’t already legal then they have to be made legal.

Sexual acceptance and sexual preferences. Those other nations have to legalize, if they haven’t already, what we’ve made legal and accepted as normal in our country. That means: LGBTQ+++

If nations with which we share classified and strategic information want to maintain that line of exchange, they must now adopt our laws regarding abortion and sex. If they don’t, we will no longer share the information that would be, and had been, mutually beneficial.

*And that got me to thinking the following. (My thoughts at this point are just things I wonder about. But, I think they might be things worth wondering about.)

I’m wondering if God didn’t have a different plan that might have worked out better for all involved.

I’m wondering if God is really pleased at how we’ve made a gigantic mixture of what He had never, perhaps, intended in the first place.

I’m wondering if things were intended to remain in accordance with the layout in Genesis 10. And if so, apart from adherence and allegiance to God and His Word, is it inevitable that it would all end up in one gigantic mixed-up conglomeration lacking form, substance and biblical values?

——————————

All that to say: I’m wondering if …

Maybe it’s time for those of us who claim the name of Christ to finally get sick-and-tired of existing in this world that is fast tracking its way to Hell.

What’s it going to take for us to actually, and finally, “come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.” II Corinthians 6:17.

Could it be that because we are so mixed in with this conglomerated mess of our societal world that we, in reality, are potentially delaying the return of our Lord and His receiving us into His coming Kingdom? I know that if it were me (and thankfully it’s not), I wouldn’t be in any great hurry to set up anything for a people that say they love Me and want Me to return, but live like the devil in the interim.

——————————

So, what now?

We need to get back the wonder of our Bibles.

Our Bibles appear to be going the way of the pocket magnet and magnifying glass — common place and no big deal anymore. We don't cherish and carry pocket magnets and magnifying glasses any more than we cherish and carry our Bibles.

I’m not expecting us to carry magnets and magnifying glasses in our pockets. It’s OK to grow beyond that level of amazement and wonder.

However, may we never lose the amazement and wonder of the miracle of holding the Word of the living God in our hands by which we learn in amazement of His wonders.

May we be drawn like magnets to the miraculous Word of the living God.

Sound good?

I trow so.

And …

Even so,

We do want You, Lord Jesus, to return and set up Your Kingdom.

Amen.
