Billy Sunday and Old Fashion Preaching

I have a complete 1921 edition of the magazine The Country Gentleman.  I got it professionally framed, and I have the joy of seeing it everyday as it hangs.  Hard to believe it will soon be 100 years old.  (I also have an original cover page of the 11/24/51 edition of The Saturday Evening Post which shows a grandmother and her grandson at a diner in some working class town praying.  I love it.  It’s professionally framed as well.)

God's Plumb Line - The Torah

So what is a plumb line?

Here’s a pretty good definition that I found.

“A plumb line, also called a plummet, is a cord with a non-magnetic weight attached to one end. When the cord is held in such a way that the weight can dangle freely, an exact vertical can be determined. Painters and carpenters use plumb lines to keep their work straight. It is difficult, while in the middle of a project, to determine a true horizontal or vertical line without an objective measuring tool, so a plumb line is employed. A plumb line applies the law of gravity to find right angles, to indicate the most direct route from top to bottom, and to keep things plumb. A plumb line doesn’t change or move with the whims of the carpenter. It remains true, and all work must line up with it or risk being crooked.”

"Exvangelicals"

I’ve come upon this term in reference to a shift within Christianity. It appears that some of the younger generation of Christians no longer want to be associated with the term Evangelical.

In all fairness, I never did use the term “evangelical” to define myself. There’s nothing inherently wrong or bad with the term. However, once you put a label on yourself it does kind of identify you with the whole.

Are You An Israelite? I Am.

Gentiles, by faith, are grafted in among Israel (the Israel of God) as Israelites.  It’s not by blood.  It never has been.  That’s why John the Baptist said in Matthew 3:9:  “And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.”  Could God raise up children unto Abraham out of stones?  Yes.

The LORD’S Land

It appears that any place outside of the LORD’s land is the place to NOT be.  Egypt wasn’t the LORD’s land.  Babylon wasn’t the LORD’s land.  There’s only one LORD’s land. Moses would lead the people to that Land and eventually they would get themselves kicked out.
And now … they’re back.  And they’re back for good.
But …
