Beware The Sweater
Beware The Sweater
Matthew 7:15-20
15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in SHEEP’S CLOTHING, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

I am fully aware that the context of these verses is talking about false prophets that seek to infiltrate God’s flock with lies, hypocrisies, and heresies. They clothe themselves (i.e., present themselves) in such a way so as to misdirect and hide their true intentions.
But, that same idea can be applied to other aspects of life as well. Hence, we’re all familiar with the phrase:
In sheep’s clothing.

There are those who want to impose their unseen (i.e., hidden) agenda on unsuspecting and vulnerable people like you and me. To do so they “cloth” themselves in such a way so as to obscure their true intentions.
In both of these realms — the spiritual and the physical — our basic human nature doesn’t always perceive this when it’s happening. Also, our basic human nature doesn’t really want to believe that people could be selfish, self-centered, and psychotic enough to do whatever is necessary to achieve their diabolical ends.
For those kind of people: The Ends Justify The Means. That’s the present world in which we are all living right now.
It’s hard to tell fact from fiction. It’s hard to pin point who’s lying and who’s telling the truth. And with media being controlled and manipulated in such a way to put out a common narrative, there’s really no way to vet much of what we read or hear these days.
George Orwell’s 1984 is no longer just a Novel. It is now, in real-time, our own “Novel Virus”.

Beware The Sweater.
Beware of those that present an image we cognitively associate with warmth and trust. I am not saying all that present an image which conveys this are always intentionally out to deceive.
But …
We are all predisposed to conclude a certain way when we see something repeatedly portrayed before us.
Example (and perhaps a good one, though … ) —
Mr. Rogers. How can you not love a guy that wears such nicely made zip-up sweaters. Take a look
There’s just something about a sweater that says:
Trust me,
I’m your friend,
I’m warm and soft,
I love you ….
